Description

This Apple Kringle with Vanilla Glaze is a delightful Danish pastry filled with spiced apples and topped with a creamy glaze.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (Can be substituted with gluten-free flour.)
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons sugar (Granulated or brown sugar works.)
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter (Chilled and cubed.)
  • 46 tablespoons cold water (Adjust for desired consistency.)
  • 3 medium-sized apples (Diced evenly (Granny Smith recommended).)
  • 0.25 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon (Nutmeg can be substituted.)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (Or substitute with apple cider vinegar.)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (Can be replaced with arrowroot or flour.)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk (Any milk variant or dairy-free option.)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (Almond extract is a good substitute.)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, salt, and sugar. Cut in the chilled butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually add cold water, mixing until the dough holds together. Wrap and chill for 30 minutes.
  2. Dice the apples and mix with brown sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, and cornstarch in a separate bowl. Let sit for 10-15 minutes.
  3. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll the chilled dough into a rectangle about ¼ inch thick on a floured surface.
  4. Transfer rolled dough to a parchment-lined baking sheet. Spoon apple filling down the center, cut slits along the sides, and fold the dough over alternately.
  5. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown. Allow to cool for 10 minutes before transferring to wire rack.
  6. In a bowl, combine powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract. Whisk until smooth.
  7. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled kringle and let set before slicing.
