- 1 cup milk
- 3/4 cup (1 + 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
- 2 eggs
- 4 cups (550g) bread flour
- 1 tbsp (10g) instant dry yeast
- 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened (for filling)
- 1 cup (200g) light brown sugar, packed
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Powdered sugar (for topping)
Instructions
- Warm the milk in a saucepan over low heat until lukewarm (about 110°F).
- Cream together 3/4 cup softened butter, granulated sugar, and salt in a mixing bowl until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs and warmed milk, mixing until well-combined.
- Gradually incorporate bread flour and yeast until a soft dough forms.
- Allow the dough to rise in a greased bowl, covered, in a warm area for about 1 hour.
- Punch down dough, roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle (1/4-inch thick), and spread 1/2 cup softened butter on top.
- Sprinkle brown sugar and cinnamon over the buttered dough.
- Fold dough in half lengthwise, cut into strips, and twist them together into braids.
- Place braided buns on a baking sheet, cover, and let rise for 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) while buns rise.
- Brush tops with beaten egg and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
