Description

Restaurant-style Beef and Broccoli is a flavorful and easy dish that can be prepared in 20 minutes or less. Serve it directly from the pan or over rice for a satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 Tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 1/2 pounds broccoli cut into florets, about 8 cups
  • 1 pound flank steak thinly sliced against the grain
  • Sauce:
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar packed
  • 2 Tablespoons cornstarch
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger grated
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • Garnishes:
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds
  • 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine the sauce ingredients and mix well. Set aside.
  2. Heat 2 Tablespoons oil in a large (12 inch) skillet over high heat.
  3. Add the broccoli and cook 4-5 minutes, stirring often. Remove broccoli from pan.
  4. To the same skillet, add an additional 1 Tablespoon oil.
  5. Add the thinly sliced beef and cook about 2 minutes on each side, until browned but not fully cooked through.
  6. Add the sauce and broccoli to the skillet with the cooked beef.
  7. Cook for 2-3 minutes more, until sauce is thickened and beef and broccoli are coated.
  8. Remove from heat and garnish with sesame seeds and crushed red pepper flakes.
  9. Serve over white rice or as desired.

Notes

  • Cut the broccoli into similar sized pieces for even cooking.
  • Slice the steak nice and thin, against the grain, for quick cooking and easy bites.
  • Be careful not to over-cook the steak.
  • Keep the pan at high heat for optimal results.
  • Don’t over-thicken the sauce.
  • Recipe Variations: Use any type of steak, substitute ground beef, add additional veggies like mushrooms or onions, adjust sweetness, add sriracha for heat, or garnish with peanuts.
  • Serving Suggestions: Serve over quinoa or cauliflower rice.
  • Storing & Reheating: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. Reheat in a skillet with a small amount of water over medium heat.
