Description

Crispy, golden-brown tofu cutlets that are deliciously satisfying and perfect for any meal.


Ingredients

Scale
  • ½ cup (60g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 cup (65g) panko
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • Pinch of black pepper
  • 1 block (16 oz.) extra-firm tofu
  • Vegetable or canola oil for frying
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Freeze the whole block of tofu overnight, then defrost and drain it.
  2. Press the tofu for at least 20 minutes to remove excess moisture.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, cornstarch, and salt with water to make a batter.
  4. In another bowl, mix panko with salt, paprika, and black pepper.
  5. Slice the pressed tofu into four equal pieces.
  6. Coat each tofu piece in the flour mixture, then in the panko mixture, and place on a wire rack.
  7. Heat oil in a pan and fry the tofu cutlets for about 2 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  8. Drain on paper towels and season with salt.
  9. Serve with your favorite dipping sauce or alongside a meal.

Notes

  • Tofu can be pressed with a heavy object if a tofu press is not available.
