Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup Unsalted Butter
  • 0.5 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 2 cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 0.5 cup Unsalted Butter
  • 0.75 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1 can (14 oz) Sweetened Condensed Milk
  • 0.25 cup Golden Syrup
  • 1 cup Dark Chocolate Chips
  • Flaky Sea Salt (Optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. Cream together 1 cup of softened unsalted butter and 0.5 cup of granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Gradually mix in 2 cups of all-purpose flour until a soft dough forms, press into the pan, and bake for 18-20 minutes.
  4. In a saucepan, combine 0.5 cup of butter, 0.75 cup of brown sugar, 1 can of sweetened condensed milk, and 0.25 cup of golden syrup. Cook over medium heat while whisking for about 10 minutes until thick and golden.
  5. Pour caramel over the cooled shortbread, spreading evenly. Let set for 30 minutes at room temperature.
  6. Melt 1 cup of dark chocolate chips in a double boiler or microwave until smooth, then allow to cool slightly.
  7. Pour melted chocolate over caramel and spread evenly, sprinkling flaky sea salt if desired. Allow to cool completely for around 1 hour.
  8. Once set, slice into bars using a warm knife and serve or store in an airtight container.
