A comforting lasagna filled with layers of rich meat sauce, creamy ricotta, and gooey mozzarella cheese, perfect for family gatherings or cozy nights in.

- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 pound Italian sausage
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cans crushed tomatoes (28 oz each)
- 2 cans tomato paste (6 oz each)
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 2 teaspoons dried basil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 pound ricotta cheese
- 1 large egg
- 4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 12 pieces lasagna noodles, cooked and drained
- Fresh parsley (optional, for garnishing)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large skillet, cook the ground beef and Italian sausage over medium heat until browned. Drain any excess fat.
- Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté until the onion is translucent.
- Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, sugar, basil, salt, and pepper. Let simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, 2 cups of mozzarella cheese, and half of the Parmesan cheese. Mix until smooth.
- Spread a thin layer of meat sauce at the bottom of a baking dish. Layer with 4 lasagna noodles.
- Spread half of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, then add a third of the meat sauce and a sprinkle of mozzarella cheese. Repeat the layering until all ingredients are used.
- Finish with meat sauce on top, sprinkle with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
- Cover tightly with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes, or until cheese is bubbly.
- Let the lasagna rest for 10-15 minutes before cutting. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
