Description

Make perfect smash burgers every time with this easy recipe. These burgers are crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and perfectly seared for maximum flavor. They cook up in minutes and are a great base for your favorite toppings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/4 pounds ground beef (85/15 or 80/20 blend)
  • 4 Tablespoons butter
  • 8 slices American cheese, cheddar, or Colby Jack
  • 8 hamburger buns
  • Burger sauce, to taste
  • Lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pickles, or any toppings of your choice

Instructions

  1. Heat a griddle or large skillet to medium-high heat.
  2. Divide the ground beef into 8 equal portions and roll each portion loosely into a ball.
  3. Melt 1/2 tablespoon of butter on the griddle for each burger. Place the meat balls on the hot griddle.
  4. Using a burger press or a large metal spatula, smash the meat balls into 1/4 inch thick patties. Season with salt and pepper or your favorite burger seasonings.
  5. Grill the smash burgers for 1 minute on the first side.
  6. Flip the burgers, add cheese slices, and continue grilling for 1-2 minutes more, or until the cheese is fully melted.
  7. Remove the smash burgers from the griddle.
  8. Place each patty on a hamburger bun, add your favorite toppings and sauce, and enjoy your delicious homemade smash burgers.

Notes

  • For best results, use a burger press to smash the patties.
  • Smash burgers cook quickly; avoid overcooking to maintain juiciness.
  • Double up the patties for a richer meat-to-bun ratio.
  • Customize your smash burgers with a variety of toppings like lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pickles, bacon, and your favorite sauces.
  • Variations include using ground turkey, chicken, or plant-based protein. Season with different burger seasonings and try various cheese types.
