Description

Texas Trash Pie is a fun, indulgent dessert combining sweet, salty, crunchy, and chewy elements. It features a mix of pantry staples like chocolate chips, pretzels, coconut, and pecans baked into a buttery crust, all bound by sweetened condensed milk. This ‘everything but the kitchen sink’ pie is perfect for gatherings and showcases a delightful blend of textures and flavors.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust (store-bought or homemade)
  • ½ cup sweetened shredded coconut
  • ½ cup crushed pretzels
  • ½ cup graham cracker crumbs
  • ½ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ½ cup white chocolate chips
  • ½ cup chopped pecans
  • 1 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F. Place the unbaked 9-inch pie crust into a pie plate. You can crimp the edges if you like. Ensure the crust is thawed if using a frozen one.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the sweetened shredded coconut, crushed pretzels, graham cracker crumbs, semi-sweet chocolate chips, white chocolate chips, and chopped pecans.
  3. Pour in the 1 cup of sweetened condensed milk and stir everything together until well combined. The mixture will be thick and sticky.
  4. Spoon the filling into the prepared pie crust and spread it out evenly with a spatula or the back of a spoon, pressing it down slightly.
  5. Sprinkle the ¼ teaspoon of salt evenly over the top of the filling.
  6. Bake the Texas Trash Pie for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the filling is bubbling around the edges. If the crust edges brown too quickly, cover them loosely with foil.
  7. Remove the pie from the oven and let it cool completely on a cooling rack for at least 2-3 hours at room temperature. For a firmer pie, you can refrigerate it.

Notes

  • This Texas Trash Pie is very rich, so small slices are often sufficient.
  • Feel free to customize your Texas Trash Pie by swapping out mix-ins; try butterscotch chips, toffee bits, or different nuts.
  • Allow the pie to cool completely to ensure clean slices and a set, chewy texture.
  • Serve Texas Trash Pie at room temperature or chilled. It pairs exceptionally well with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of warm caramel sauce.
  • You can toast the shredded coconut before adding it to the filling for an enhanced nutty flavor.
  • For a make-ahead option, this Texas Trash Pie tastes even better the next day as the flavors meld.
