Description

Perfectly sweet, moist Apple Crumb Cake made with fresh apples, ground cinnamon, and a delicious brown sugar pecan topping.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup butter (softened)
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup buttermilk (OR sour milk)
  • 2 cups apples (peeled & chopped)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup pecans (chopped)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the flour, baking soda and salt. Mix well.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream together the butter and sugar. Add the cinnamon and vanilla extract and mix well.
  4. To the creamed butter, add the flour mixture alternately with the buttermilk until all ingredients are thoroughly incorporated.
  5. Stir in the apples.
  6. Pour the batter into a greased 9×13 inch baking pan. Combine the topping ingredients and sprinkle evenly over the top.
  7. Bake at 350°F for 40-50 minutes, until toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
