Description

This Apple Dapple Cake is a nostalgic, old-fashioned dessert. It’s packed with fresh apples, warm spices, and a rich, buttery brown sugar glaze that soaks into the cake for an ultra-moist finish. With a tender crumb and a caramel-like flavor, this cake is perfect for fall baking or any time you want a cozy, crowd-pleasing treat. It gets better with time, making it ideal for sharing or preparing in advance.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups peeled and chopped apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 large eggs
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
  • For the glaze:
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup milk or heavy cream
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and grease and flour a bundt or tube pan.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine sugar, oil, and eggs. Beat until well blended, then stir in the vanilla.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
  5. Fold in the chopped apples and nuts if using. The batter will be thick.
  6. Spoon the mixture evenly into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
  7. Bake for 60 to 70 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 to 15 minutes before turning it out onto a wire rack.
  9. While the cake is cooling, prepare the glaze by combining brown sugar, butter, milk, and a pinch of salt in a saucepan over medium heat.
  10. Stir constantly until the mixture begins to boil. Let it simmer for about 2 minutes, then remove from heat.
  11. While the cake is still warm, slowly spoon or pour the glaze over the top, allowing it to soak in and drip down the sides.
  12. Let the cake cool completely before slicing.
