  • 2 tablespoons (16g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons (28g) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup (120g) powdered sugar
  • 23 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dough: Dissolve yeast and 1 teaspoon sugar in warm milk in a large bowl. Let stand for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add melted butter, remaining sugar, salt, and egg to the yeast mixture. Mix well.
  3. Gradually add flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
  6. Make the apple filling: Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
  7. Add diced apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Cook, stirring occasionally, until apples are tender and mixture thickens (about 8-10 minutes). Let cool slightly.
  8. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  9. Punch down dough and roll into a 12×18 inch rectangle on a lightly floured surface.
  10. Spread apple filling evenly, leaving a 1-inch border.
  11. Roll dough tightly into a log from one long side. Pinch seam to seal.
  12. Transfer log to baking sheet and shape into an oval or ring. Pinch ends together.
  13. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown.
  14. Prepare vanilla glaze: Whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  15. Drizzle glaze over warm kringle. Let glaze set before serving.
