Ingredients

  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 175°C (350°F) and line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the melted butter and granulated sugar, stirring until smooth.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder.
  5. Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
  6. If using, stir in the chocolate chips.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared pan, smoothing the top evenly.
  8. Bake for about 25–30 minutes, or until the top is set and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  9. Cool completely in the pan before lifting out and slicing into squares.
