Description

This Monte Cristo Breakfast Casserole combines savory ham, turkey, and Swiss cheese for a comforting, crowd-pleasing brunch dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 10 slices White Bread
  • 1 cup Ham
  • 1 cup Turkey
  • 1 cup Swiss Cheese
  • 6 large Eggs
  • 2 cups Milk
  • 1/4 cup Maple Syrup
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Pepper
  • 1/4 cup Melted Butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Cut the day-old white bread into bite-sized cubes and place half of them into the prepared baking dish.
  3. Sprinkle a layer of diced ham, shredded turkey, and Swiss cheese over the bread cubes.
  4. Add the remaining bread cubes on top of the ham, turkey, and cheese layers.
  5. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, maple syrup, salt, and pepper until fully combined.
  6. Pour the custard mixture evenly over the layered ingredients and let the bread soak.
  7. Drizzle melted butter over the top before baking.
  8. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for another 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Let it cool for about 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Day-old bread is preferable for better absorption of the egg mixture.
  • Substitute ham with smoked turkey or crispy bacon if desired.
  • Cooked chicken can work as an alternative to turkey.
  • Gruyere or cheddar can replace Swiss cheese.
  • Almond milk can be used for a dairy-free option.
  • Honey can substitute maple syrup.
