Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
- 1 lb broccoli florets (fresh or frozen)
- 2 tbsp vegetable or avocado oil (divided)
- 6 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce or tamari for gluten-free
- ½ cup water or beef broth
- 3 tbsp light brown sugar
- 1.5 tbsp cornstarch
- 2 tbsp sesame oil
- 2 tsp fresh garlic, grated
- 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- sesame seeds (optional garnish)
- chopped green onions (optional garnish)
Instructions
- Slice the flank steak thinly against the grain and toss it with 1 tsp soy sauce and 1 tsp cornstarch. Let it marinate for about 15 minutes.
- Heat 1 tbsp oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the marinated beef in a single layer and sear for 1-2 minutes without stirring.
- Stir and cook the beef for another 1-2 minutes until nicely browned. Remove the beef and set aside.
- In the same pan, add 1 tbsp oil and the broccoli. Stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until bright green and slightly tender.
- In a small bowl, whisk together all stir-fry sauce ingredients until smooth. Pour the sauce into the pan and stir for 1-2 minutes until it thickens.
- Return the beef and broccoli to the pan and toss to coat everything in the sauce. Let it simmer for another minute.
- Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions if desired. Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.
